Volunteer Work

I believe that giving back to the community is essential to the growth and development of society. As a student I thought that I had no free time to be able to give back. Between working part time and going to school full time, I thought there was no room for donating my time. I realized that I do actually have quite a bit of free time. I think that incorporating my breaks from schoolwork into volunteer work has helped me much more than just binge watching Netflix. By activity doing something with my time I focus on something else while also providing a service in the process.

Currently I am volunteering for two organizations, one of which was chosen by the school and the other I was approached by. Volunteering for the Canadian Hard-of-Hearing Association (CHHA) has been a very rewarding experience. I have gained knowledge on the world of the hard-of-hearing, and I have made some wonderful new friends. The other organization, which I mentioned in a previous post, Youth Empowerment Group (YEG) has helped organize a collective art show that I am donating photography services to.

These groups have given me a positive outlook on the world and have created a desire for me to volunteer on a regular basis.
